Our Hobey Baker nominee for this year is senior forward, Jacob Briggs. This was Brigg’s first season on our varsity hockey team and one of the biggest regrets that I have as a coach is not having him on our team earlier. He changed the culture within our locker room by just being a natural leader and a great teammate. Everyone loved him because he always had a positive attitude and would run through a wall for any of his teammates.

Jacob was beyond coachable, he was always asking questions at practice and in games to ensure he was doing what was needed to help the team win. If he didn’t have it that night, you felt his presence on the bench by cheering on his teammates and creating energy.

He led by example within the Chaminade community by attending all sporting events and bringing some of his fellow teammates along to create an atmosphere like we receive for all games.

One of the best stories of the year to show you why he is our nominee for this season… we were 24 hours away from playing in the state championship game, unfortunately we made the decision to not play him in the final game of his senior season. Did he whine, throw a fit and be a bad teammate? No, he said coach I respect your decision. What do you need from me in order to help us win this game? I said continue to be the teammate that you have been all year!

We made the decision to have him join us on the bench for the state championship game and I truly believe that we don’t win that game if he wasn’t exactly where he was. He brought so much energy and positivity on that bench and was pumping up his teammates after every shift! The boys loved having him there and it was all worth it when he got the hoist that trophy in the end!

This young man deserves this award and I am so proud to be able to nominate him!
