Jack Spaulding
2015 | Ohio | BOYS
Talawanda | Braves | BOYS
I would like to recommend this award to Jack for multiple reasons that are too many to list but here are some of the important ones. Jack is our Goalie and has been our only goalie with no back up for the last two seasons; despite this, at no time did we ever have to worry about the mental toughness that he displays on and off the ice. I have never seen a player, especially a goalie, reset as quickly as he does when he makes a bad play; knowing that his team needs him, he understands that he can’t worry about the mistakes except to learn from it and get back in the game. His work ethic goes above and beyond anyone else’s on the team, as he is always the first player at practice and games preparing himself mentally and physically. He is a team leader on and off the ice and this was the reason I chose to make him an assistant captain for this season. The entire team builds off of his play because of the mental reset that he has. He is not only an excellent choice for this award just because of his hockey skills, but he also gives back to the youth hockey program by working with the younger players and is always positive in his teaching with them. He promotes what being an athlete, sportsman, and goalie means to him, which keeps them interested and excited, not only about the sport, but the position, too. Besides his hockey talents, Jack is an Honor Roll student and is a member of National Honor Society. With all of this said, I feel that Jack will represent this award in all aspects of what the award means and the reason that it is given.
