Islay’s commitment to hockey is remarkable. She balances playing on three different teams while managing her academic and personal responsibilities, and she never allows her workload to affect her attitude or effort. She shows up every game ready to work, ready to compete, and ready to support her teammates.

As an alternate captain, Islay leads in meaningful and thoughtful ways. She competes hard, carries herself with integrity, and treats teammates, coaches, and officials with respect. When things get tough, she is steady and composed. Beyond her example on the ice, she has developed a strong understanding of her teammates’ strengths and compatibilities. She offers insightful input on line combinations and personnel decisions, always with the team’s success in mind. Her hockey IQ is matched by her awareness of the people around her.

What is most admirable about Islay is the way she has embraced her role as a senior. She has taken our freshmen under her wing, offering encouragement on the bench, positive feedback after shifts, and genuine friendship off the ice. She makes younger players feel valued and confident, helping to create a team culture that is supportive and inclusive.

Islay doesn’t seek attention for her leadership—she simply lives it every day. She makes our program better through her character, work ethic, and care for others, embodying the “Character building excellence” ideal of this award.
