It is an honor to recommend Century High School senior Hayden Ashworth for consideration for the 2013-2014 Hobey Baker Character Award.  I’ve come to know Hayden very well over the last three years as his coach on the Century Panthers Hockey Team.

Throughout the years at Century, Hayden exemplifies the ideals and qualities of a scholar athlete.  He shows strong leadership and work ethic in the classroom and extracurricular activities as well as on the ice.  Hayden brings an infectious positive attitude and passion in all of his activities as well as life in general.  He shows other students through his actions that hard work, positive attitude and commitment can lead to success in one’s endeavors.    

As a 3-year varsity player, Hayden has worked with our younger student athletes to show how they can balance efforts in the classroom and athletics at the same time.  Hayden is always willing to share his own experiences, both positive and negative ones, showing that you can maintain a strong above average GPA while excelling in athletics.  The best part of watching and knowing Hayden throughout his Century Panther career, has been watching him grow into the young man he is today.  It’s been a journey that I’m honored to have played a small part.  Hayden has found time to give back to Rochester youth program over the three years of playing High School hockey with volunteering time with the youth players. Hayden also volunteered with Hiawatha homes the Festival of Trees, and the Salvation Army during Bell ringing.  This shows that Eric really cares about the community, program, and himself.

Hayden Ashworth has been a valuable, integral part of Century High School and is considered a leader in and out of the classroom as well as on the ice; when he graduates he will be greatly missed.  Hayden Ashworth would be a worthy recipient of the Award that recognizes his outstanding combination of scholarship and athletics.  Again, it is my honor to serve as a reference for him.
