To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Al Styckiewicz, boy’s varsity hockey coach for Chicopee High School.   I would like to nominate Hannah Elmer for the Hobby Baker sportsmanship award.   Hannah has been a starter for the boys’ varsity team as a freshman and is now captain.  In all four years she has played in every varsity game and has only had 3 penalties in four years.
Hannah is 5’3”, 120 lbs.  Boys do not regard her as a female player and check her as they would any other opponent.  Not only does she take checks, she also gives them back.  I have seen boys retaliate with cheap shots after checks.  Hannah handles this by skating away and continuing on with the game.
Hannah is one of the nicest people you could meet.  She leads our team as captain through example with her mild manner and all business on the ice attitude.  She organizes the community service for the whole team and has done extra hours on her own.
-Learn to skate (at Fitzpatrick and Amelia Park) freshmen thru senior year
-Assist coach Pioneer Valley Lightning Squirt team -senior year
-Rays of Hope –sophomore thru senior year
-Take and Eat (food distribution program for those who don’t leave their homes)

Hannah is very attentive.  She looks you in the eyes and takes in everything you say, and it shows by her corrective actions on the ice. When Hannah does asks questions, it is to help her and the team understand the concept and not question what I am teaching is valid.  Hannah makes adjustments to her play and team play better than any other athlete I have ever coached.
Hannah’s grade are exceptional.  She takes all Honors classes and has a class rank of 33 out of 250 in her senior class.  She is a member of the National Honor Society.  Next year Hannah plans on going on to play college hockey although as of now, she is undecided about which college she is attending.
Coaching Hannah has been a pleasure.  I appreciate your consideration to nominate Hannah Elmer for the Hobby Baker Award.

Sincerely,
Alan Styckiewicz
