Grace Chapman

Grace Chapman is a senior captain on the Blaine High School girls hockey team. Grace’s work ethic is in the top 5% of the athletes that I have known in my 15 years coaching at BHS. She is one of those players that works hard in every single drill no matter what type it is. If our players are just going through the motions in practice, I can put her to the front of the line and she will change the pace of the drill and the rest of the team will follow. She has this crazy awesome drive in each rep and the other girls feed off of it.
This season, during our senior night game, we were winning the game and I wanted to play only our 3rd and 4th line players that don’t get as much ice time as our first two lines. Grace is our only senior on the top two lines, so I checked in with her to say we wanted to play those other lines. She said to me “I want my teammates to score, play them instead of me – it doesn’t matter that it’s senior night.” That moment was one of my favorites of the season. It made me so proud of her and thankful that I have gotten the opportunity to be her coach.
