Frederik Nielsen is the type of player coaches wait for their entire lives to coach. Not only does he possess incredibly talente and skill, but he also has all the other qualities a coach looks for: respectful, hard working, character, integrity, leadership, commitment and sportsmanship. His coach, who has been coaching for decades, says he has never seen a player give so much of himself to a team every shift, every period and every game. He is the type of player that is respected by both his teammates and his coaches. He is the Captain of the Lightning hockey team. He leads his team by example. He is rarely seen in the penalty box and he has the highest scoring stats in his division, leading with 42 goals and 16 assists for 58 points. In addition to being the Captain of the team, he has also represented the team at the All-Star game for the last four years. In addition to his high school team, Frederik is also the Captain of his travel team, the Golden Wolves 18UAA. He was also Captain of the Wolves 16UAA team, which he led to a National Championship victory in 2025. His success is not limited to playing ice hockey. Frederik is an excellent student as well. He has earned full bright futures scholarship as a result of his outstanding SAT score of 1480 and has an impressive 4.9 GPA while balancing two hockey teams and a competitive academic schedule. He plans to attend the University of South Florida and study Pre-Med. Frederik is also a 3 year member of the FPSHL Leadership Academy. Even with his challenging schedule, Frederik finds the time to be a referee for local games. He has earned the reputation for being a fair and just arbiter of the game. In his spare time he also enjoys other activities with friends off the ice. Frederik has always fostered a culture of inclusion rather than exclusion both on and off the ice serving as a mentor and teacher to younger, less talented players. His encouragement pushes the younger players to work harder and believe in themselves. He truly embodies the spirit of the Hobey Baker award and for all these reasons he is the Lightning Hockey Team nominee for the Hobey Baker Award for 2026.
