Countdown to Hobey:

Eliza Mahoney

2018 | Rhode Island | GIRLS

La Salle Academy | Rams | GIRLS

I have known Eliza Mahoney for the past 4 years as the head coach of the La Salle Girls’ Varsity Hockey Team. She is a successful student-athlete and valued player for our hockey program. During the time that I have known Eliza, I have always been incredibly impressed with her ability to be an effective leader on our hockey team. She is the type of leader who leads by example and exemplifies the adage by Thomas Edison that, “There is no substitute for hard work.â€_x009d_ Her determination and will to succeed are infectious and her teammates have no choice but to follow her lead! Additionally, Eliza is the consummate student-athlete who gets things done in and out of the classroom as well as on the ice and field. She is an honor roll student who challenges herself by taking honors and AP classes. She is an active member of the La Salle Community as evidenced by her participation in La Sallian Youth, Student Council, and the Sports Broadcasting Club. What makes her active participation in the La Salle community even more impressive is that she does this while also participating as a full-time three sport athlete. She has played varsity field hockey, lacrosse, and ice hockey since she was a freshman. It speaks volumes to the type of young woman that Eliza is when she is able to perform at such a high level in everything that she does in and out of school. While Eliza possesses an impressive academic, athletic, and extra-curricular resume, it is her qualities as a person that truly distinguishes her from many of her peers. She has many strengths that make her a very special person. She is a warm and caring, and exhibits an open attitude when interacting with friends, peers, and coaches. She, more than any other player on the team this season, has successfully bridged the gap between the veteran and rookie players. She is respected and adored by everyone on the team. Eliza Mahoney is a well-liked, respected, and valued member of the La Salle community and would be a tremendous ambassador for the Hobey Baker Character Award.
