Edison Barnes is a senior forward for our Regis Jesuit High School varsity hockey team. I’ve had the privilege to coach Edison for three seasons; two on our JV team and this past season on our varsity team. Last year he was the captain of our JV team, and this season is an assistant captain on our varsity team. His leadership abilities have been recognized by both his coaches and his peers. Edison is one of the hardest workers on the ice. This effort makes him an outstanding forechecker, backchecker and penalty kill specialist. He cares deeply for the team and his teammates and sacrifices personal glory for the betterment of the team.
Edison has also had to overcome two injuries that curtailed his sophomore and junior hockey seasons. In each season, he suffered a fractured wrist that ended his hockey seasons early. Even when not able to help on the ice, he maintained a positive attitude and became his teammates biggest cheerleader and an extra coach in the locker room.
His commitment to our hockey program has been undeniable and our team would not be the cohesive group that it has become without his fine character qualities.
