Countdown to Hobey:

Drew Weed

2026 | Indiana |

Columbus Icemen Varsity | |

It is my privilege to recommend Drew Weed for the Hobey Baker Award. Drew embodies all the qualities that sets the examples of this aware by setting a standard that elevates everyone around him.
Academically, Drew has distinguished himself as one of the top students in his class. With a 4.233 GPA and a class rank of 24th out of 488, he exemplifies discipline, maturity, and a strong commitment to excellence. As a member of the National Honor Society, he is recognized for both scholarship and character. His dedication to serving others is equally impressive—he volunteers as a peer math tutor and participates in Book Buddies, helping elementary students improve their reading skills. Drew’s leadership and compassion are evident in the way he prioritizes helping younger learners succeed.
On the ice, Drew’s athletic résumé speaks for itself. A fouryear varsity player, he has accumulated over 150 points and has been the leading scorer for the Icemen for the past three seasons. He has twice earned Offensive Player of the Year honors during his sophomore and junior years and is leading the team again as a senior. His exceptional performance on the state stage includes scoring two goals in the 2A State Championship game, contributing directly to the team’s title.
Drew’s consistency is perhaps his most defining athletic trait. Over the past three years, he has not missed a single practice or game, demonstrating extraordinary commitment, responsibility, and physical and mental resilience. Even when dealing with the typical aches, pains, and fatigue that come with highlevel competition, Drew showed up—always prepared, always focused, and always ready to lead by example. That level of dependability has become a foundation for the entire Icemen program, and younger players look to him to model what dedication truly looks like.
A natural leader, Drew serves as an assistant captain, where he leads with humility, effort, and respect. He is highly coachable, disciplined, and carries himself with integrity reflected in the fact that he has accumulated only a handful of penalties in his entire high school career. His character embodies the sportsmanship and honor that the Hobey Baker Award celebrates. His selection to Team Indiana as a sophomore and his invitation to Mid-Am tryouts after his freshman year further highlight his skill and competitive drive.
Off the ice, Drew’s commitment to growing the sport is remarkable. Through his CheapSkates senior project, he raised over $2,500 for CYH’s Learn to Play Hockey initiative, helping more young athletes gain access to the game. Throughout high school, he has also volunteered as an onice mentor for the Learn to Play program, giving countless hours to help future players develop confidence and foundational skills.
Drew embodies the core values of the Hobey Baker Award—excellence, leadership, humility, integrity, and service. He is an accomplished student, an elite athlete, a dependable teammate, and a highcharacter young man whose impact extends far beyond the scoresheet.
It is with complete confidence and the highest admiration that I recommend Drew Weed for the Hobey Baker Award. He represents the very best of high school hockey, and I am proud to support his candidacy.
Sincerely,
Troy Tyner
