Derek Lewis has played in our organization the last 4 seasons since his freshman year. His development has been exponential but more importantly he has developed a character of leadership, mentorship and team synergy. Derek continuously reached out to me asking how to better improve his game so he could take his hockey to a higher level.

Derek worked hard in developing his physical strength and developed from being a 120 lbs. boy who would get knocked down by everyone to being a solid 180 lb premier defenseman quarterbacking the team’s offense. There are few players in my history as a coach who have developed so fast and so well.

Derek’s character is exceptional. Its not about him, but about his teammates, and the organization. He is respectful, inquisitive and always willing to lend a hand to the younger players or the coaching staff.

Its an honor for me to nominate Derek for this prestigious award. Well earned and deserved.
