Derek Chaillier exhibits all of the attibutes in consideration for the Hobey Baker High School Character Award, including his ability to exhibit true leadership on a daily basis.  As our captain, Derek displays excellent leadership on the ice, setting an example in both practice and games with his continouous effort, skill,  and passion for the game,  in turn makes his teammates better players.  In addition to his leadership on the ice, he excells in the classroom as an A Honor Roll student athlete.  As a player Derek is a very disciplined, skilled, and powerful defenseman who earns many minutes each game on a regular basis, including power play and penalty kill.  Derek plays very strong defensivley with the ability to contribute offensively as well, rushing the puck, vision on the ice, unsellfishnees, playmaking ability, and adding his scoring touch. Derek’s true competative nature and leadership qualities sets an excellent example for his teammates, classmates, and hockey fans throughout the area.  Derek’s overall attitude and character make him an upstanding student athlete, therefore an outstanding canidate for the Hobey Baker High School Character Award.

In addition to being a student athlete Derek volunteers his time in the community on a regular basis assisting as a youth soccer coach, volunteer assistant for an elementary school grading papers, volunteer for an elementary basketball team, and has prepared and delivered Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets during the holiday seasons for the community.
