Hobey Baker High School Character Award – Coach Statement
I am proud to nominate Dawson Erickson, a senior forward for the Red Lake Falls Eagles, for the 2026 Hobey Baker High School Character Award. He exemplifies the values this award represents: coachability, integrity, commitment, teamwork, community, and outstanding sportsmanship.
Dawson is a player who consistently puts the team above himself. He is highly coachable, accepts feedback with maturity, and applies it immediately. Whether in practice or competition, he approaches every situation with effort, accountability, and a team-first mindset. He understands his role and embraces it fully, regardless of circumstances.
His character is most evident during adversity. When things are not going his way, he responds with composure, work ethic, and leadership rather than frustration. He holds himself to a high standard and leads by example, earning the respect of teammates, coaches, opponents, and officials alike. When adversity hits, Dawson is the very first person to pick his teammates up and move forward.
Dawson is an outstanding teammate and a positive presence in our locker room. He supports others, builds team culture, and contributes to a strong sense of unity within our program. Younger players look to him as a role model for how to prepare, compete, and represent the game the right way.
Beyond the rink, Dawson represents our school and community with class. He understands that wearing our jersey is a privilege and carries that responsibility with pride. His love for the game, respect for others, and commitment to doing things the right way makes him an ideal recipient of the Hobey Baker High School Character Award.
I strongly recommend Dawson Erickson for this recognition and thank you for honoring players who make the game better through their character.
