Dear HSCA Selection Committee,

As the head coach of the Barrington High School Hockey Team and long time family friend, I am proud to nominate Colin Clegg for the Hobey Baker High School Character Award.

My rationale for nominating Colin for this award and selecting him to be the team’s Captain is well aligned with the attributes of prior HSCA recipients.  

As a student athlete, Colin does his best to succeed on and off the ice. He loves the sport of hockey and it is a central force that drives him to work hard to accomplish his academic and athletic goals, whether it be studying hard to ace an exam or rallying his teammates to dig deep each and every shift.  

Colin leads by example which makes him extremely coachable.  He puts in the hard work, he is a thoughtful listener and he has a deep desire to improve. Colin is always prepared and motivated to help his team succeed.

When it comes to sportsmanship, Colin leads what I consider to be a very respectful team. I have witnessed Colin on several occasions leading discussions about ‘doing your job’ and reinforcing our goal to refrain from unsportsmanlike conduct and focus on playing an honest, clean game.

Colin is an ambassador of leadership and respect in the community and among his peers.  As a leader on the team he does his best to motivate his teammates to try their best not only on the ice but in school and in everyday life. His spirit and personality bring out the best in his teammates, family and friends.

Colin has the character and integrity to represent this very prestigious award.
