Christopher Simpson
2016 | Maryland | BOYS
Marriotts Ridge High School | Marriotts Ridge Universe Ice Hockey Team | BOYS
It is my honor to nominate Christopher Simpson for The Hobey Baker HSCA Award.
Dedication to hockey, work ethic, community service, and leadership are essential in describing Christopher Simpson. Since his freshman year, he has played ice hockey for Marriotts Ridge High School. He has often had to leave school early to play in a high school game. Chris has devoted many hours every week to playing ice hockey as he juggles practices, games, and workouts every week. But for him the love and passion for hockey is a cardinal trait. Chris can often be found doodling power play setups during free time at school or diligently noting the tendencies of his hockey role models (Toews, Crosby, and Parise).
Chris’s hard work and unselfish team play, has evidently paid off. Over four seasons, Chris has registered over 25 goals and 75 points in the MSHL. Chris has also been the Alternate Captain of Marriotts Ridge since his junior year. Chris has also been a leader in points every year since his freshman year and has finished in the top 20 of Howard County point scorers each year, leading his team to the playoffs for four straight years and an undefeated regular season in 2015-2016.
Chris’s excellence goes beyond the 200-foot slab of ice that he skates on and even beyond the classrooms of Marriotts Ridge. He has participated in numerous community service events throughout his high school career. He often volunteers for the Special Olympics of MD Volunteer-Basketball competitions, Bowling competitions, Polar Bear Plunge, Baltimore Reads-Student Achievement Ceremonies, Toys for Tots drives. Chris aspires to pursue an engineering degree at the Naval or Air Force Academy while serving our country. For the Marriotts Ridge Ice Hockey Team, Chris assisted and organized a team wide Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) ice bucket challenge and team donation. Through Chris’s leadership, dedication, and organization, the team donated over $300. Through his junior year, he had a cumulative GPA of 4.26
I am proud to say I had the opportunity to coach/mentor Chris, and am sure in years to come, the MSHL will be able to proudly say that Christopher Simpson played in our league. Whether his future leads him to be a world renowned business owner, an astronaut or a hockey coach, he will make us proud to say, we know Chris Simpson.
.
Thank you for your consideration.
