Caleb Curran embodies everything the Hobey Baker High School Character Award stands for — humility, strength of character, teamwork, and a true love for the game.

A lifelong defenseman, Caleb entered his senior year knowing our team faced a major challenge: we simply didn’t have enough forwards to compete at the level we wanted. When we approached him about making the switch from defense to forward — a big change for any player — Caleb didn’t hesitate. His response was simple and telling of who he is: “Yes, Coach.”

From that day on, Caleb never looked back. There were no complaints, no ego — just hard work, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn something new for the good of the team. Because of his size, skating ability, strength, and powerful shot, we knew he could make the change; what impressed us most is how he embraced it.

Caleb showed up every day ready to work and ready to get better, asking questions, listening, and leading by example. His selfless attitude set the standard for his teammates, and his commitment was rewarded with his best season yet — finishing with 9 goals and 10 assists, all while adapting to an entirely new role.

Caleb Curran has been a leader, a phenomenal teammate, and a role model throughout his high school career. His actions this season perfectly represent the spirit of the Hobey Baker Award — playing for the love of the game, showing character through challenges, and always putting the team first.
