C.J. Scroger is a three year member of the varsity hockey team. As a sophomore, he joined a team that had an established starting goalie who was a junior and two very strong backup goalies who were seniors. Consequently, he saw very little playing time during his first two years with the team. Nevertheless, during those years no player was more dedicated to the team than C.J. Despite the knowledge that he was unlikely to see game time, C.J. consistently displayed an outstanding work ethic in practice and an incredibly positive attitude. His sole concern was the welfare of the team, and he went out of his way to befriend every teammate and to offer them positive feedback and encouragement. I have never met a more sincere and selfless individual.  In this, his senior year, all of C.J.’s hard work and dedication has earned him the clear designation as our number one goaltender and further led to his selection as team captain. While his role with the team has changed, his selfless commitment to his teammates remains. Despite the added responsibility and pressure that goes along with being the starting goaltender, C.J. spends as much time helping the younger goalies and his other teammates as he does working on his own game. He always has his finger on the pulse of the team and is the first one to offer support when it is needed. It has been an honor to have had the opportunity to work with such an outstanding young man and it is with great pride in his accomplishments that I recommend him for this prestigious award.
