Countdown to Hobey:

Brendan DesRosiers

2016 | New York | BOYS

Williamsville South | Billies | BOYS

Brendan is the first person that came to mind when we considered the Hobey Baker Award for a high school students. Brendan has been on the team for four years, and is the hardest working player on the team in practices and games. He leads by example- making the plays that aren’t always on the scoresheet but are crucial to the success of a team- digging pucks out of corners, winning a battle on the wall to get the puck out, penalty killing, being the first forechecker in the zone and so many more. He is a very strong student- I was fortunate to have Brendan in my AP United States History class when he was a junior. His work ethic and character shone through in the classroom as much as they do on the ice. He is in the running for a spot at the US Army’s Academy at West Point which didn’t surprise any of the coaches- his desire to serve others and be a leader is evident in all facets of his life. He is one of the most coachable players I’ve ever coached in over 15 years of working with players, and he exemplifies good sportsmanship on the ice as well- the first to congratulate an opponent for a good effort, and the first to demand that his team-mates hold themselves to the same high expectations that Brendan holds himself to. He volunteers in local community events and is the kind of person that we are proud to call a Williamsville South student.
