Bishop Watterson High School | Eagles | BOYS
As an athlete, Brandon is one of the finest to ever grace the halls of Bishop Watterson. A four-year starter, letterman, and captain in three sports (Football, Hockey, and Baseball), Brandon is the epitome of what schools are looking for in an athlete. He received the coveted Eagle Award for multi-sport athletes, given out to only those who have 8 or more varsity letters as a Junior. On the ice, Brandon has played on the top line since joining the program. After losing 70% of our scoring to graduation before Brandon, we needed players to step up in leadership roles and be able to play extended minutes in all situations. In his four-year stint with us, he has been our leading scorer each year and has garnered all-league honors every year and potentially all-state this year. To fill a pressing need, Brandon has seen extensive time on the penalty kill as well. True to form, Brandon has excelled in this capacity, taking as much pride in defending as he does scoring. His flexibility and willingness to put “we above I” for the team to succeed is a testament to his selfless nature. To date, we are in third place in the Blue Division of the CHC and experiencing a better than expected year due to low numbers. Brandon is an integral part of this success. His hard work and dedication, both on and off the ice, helped lead the team to extremely successful seasons in his four years with the program.
Since coming into the league, Brandon has received the admiration of his teammates and opponents through his positive attitude, intense play, and respect for the game. This led to his being named a rare Junior Captain last year and Senior Captain this year. He is well on his way to having a career season in points and runs the top power play due to his offense prowess. In addition to his leadership on the rink, Brandon is also a leader at the school. As an ambassador for the school and team, we are so proud to have Brandon a part of our program. His ability to lead on the athletic field and in the academic community is what sets him apart from the rest.
Beyond his athletic success, Brandon works tirelessly in the classroom. With a heavy workload of classes, Brandon has managed his time very well to succeed in both sports and school. Carrying a high GPA, Brandon’s school schedule consists of many demanding classes. Just like at the rink, Brandon enjoys challenging himself in school. Additionally, Brandon took on the added responsibilities during the trying time of Covid-19. He helped me as a coach to facilitate safety measures of social distancing, mask adherence, and Covid protocols so that the team could continue to participate safely through the pandemic. This year, as a Senior Captain, Brandon is the point person for team communication with regards to game and practice changes, weather updates, and urgent messages during an ever-changing schedule. Our program has been very fortunate to play a full schedule the past two years, despite our low numbers. I think this in large part due to team consistency and adherence to schedules enforced by team leaders like Brandon. He is an invaluable extension of the coaching staff.
