Integrity and positive attitude — Averi is an example of cheerful determination. She began playing hockey as a pee wee when checking was still allowed at that age level.  Despite being new to the game, undersized, and one of the only females on her team, she persevered and developed and has continued that throughout her high school hockey years. Young women in our program face an interesting challenge of playing on teams made up mostly of young men. They often have to find different places to dress and can miss out on some of the locker room camaraderie.  Averi has made special efforts throughout her high school career to insert herself into the team and become a valued and fun part of that environment. She has always been known for supporting her teammates on and off the ice
Coachability —  Despite joining hockey later than many players, Averi has consistently listened to adopted the instruction of her coaches to improve her play and contribution to her teams. She is a joy to coach and has always been willing to play any position or role needed.
Outstanding sportsmanship —  Averi is neither a sore loser nor overzealous in victory. She celebrates the successes of individuals on her team as much as she celebrates team victories, and often more than she celebrates her own successes.  Within our small hockey community here Averi often has as much fun interacting with opposing players as she does with those on her own team. She conducts herself with coaches, players, and officials with the utmost integrity.
Community spirit  — Averi has spent the past two years giving back to younger members of our hockey community by teaching Learn to Skate and Learn to Play.  She has also assisted her father on the ice coaching some of his other teams.  Averi has been a strong advocate of Chaparral Ice, bringing others to the rink for public skating and inviting friends, family, and neighbors to come watch games. When Averi tells friends at school that she plays hockey it provides an opportunity to discuss all that Austin hockey and Chaparral Ice have to offer. Averi has served not only as a shining example of the type of character to represent our Austin high school hockey program but also as a role model that young players, both male and female can follow.
