Asher Chorney
2017 | Minnesota | BOYS
Lake of the Woods | Bears | BOYS
Asher was selected because of his willingness to go above and beyond what is expected. Asher has been a 4 year letter winner for the Lake of the Woods Bears hockey team. He has been selected as captain his Junior and Senior year. He continues to show his character on a daily basis not only on the ice but within the community as well. He has volunteers at the hospital and meals on wheels delivering food to the nursing center. He also volunteers his time and skates with the mites on a weekly basis as well as hockey school in the summer. Asher is also involved in boys volleyball, soccer, and men”s league fastpitch in the summer all while holding down a part-time job.
Asher has been a leader for the Bears the last two season setting the standard of what it means to be a good teammate. He takes charge in the off-season encouraging his teammates to attend and pushes them to do their best during summer off-season workouts. He also takes charge in the weight room during the season making sure all of the underclassman know and understand how to do the lifts and encourages them to do their best. He is a hard working young man in whatever he does.
I know that I can count on Asher because he honors commitments. In being a leader he understands what it takes in being a responsible leader. Asher has one of the biggest drives for doing his best ALL the time that I have seen in my 6 years at Lake of the Woods. He does not only have a strong work ethic on and off the ice but also gets results when it counts. He continues to improve his game and the game of others around him on a daily basis. He is always putting in extra time at the rink weather he is skating with the little guys, doing a little extra work for himself, or cleaning the locker room. Asher treats everyone on the team as they were his family. He helps players who may not get a drill or get a concept understand what we are trying to accomplish. As a captain he listens to his teammates and passes on any information that needs to be passed on. As a player he has magnificent self control, poise, and respect for the game, himself, and his team.
