The Hobey Baker Award committee believes that adversity builds character, and character builds excellence. Amanda Leone was voted as a Captain by her teammates and coaches because of her character, positive attitude on and off the ice, and her love for the game. Adversity struck early this season for Amanda. During pre-season, she had surgery on her foot, and while in a protective boot, she came to practices and games to cheer her team on. When faced with the prospect of a second surgery, her true character shines through, and she continued to stay positive, attend practices and games, and be a positive role model on the bench and in the locker room. Amanda’s journey back onto the ice was challenging, however Amanda’s unwavering commitment to the team, love for the game, and positive attitude is inspiring to her teammates, and deserving of the Hobey Baker High School Character Award.
