Alex Schirack

Bishop Watterson High School | Eagles | BOYS
Players with the character of Alex Schirack are a rarity and reaffirm my decision to continue coaching after 28 years. Alex has always had a fantastic work ethic both on and off the ice and an unwavering dedication to team over self. In the time I have known Alex, he has displayed the ability to focus on aspects of his game that need improvement. He was named Captain unanimously and has lived up to every part of the responsibility. He takes pride in leading by example and is truly one of the most selfless players I have had the pleasure to coach. Being a forward by nature, we were in desperate need for defensemen his entire four years. Without complaint or trepidation, Alex played almost every shift of his career as a defensemen. This year, he was nominated for All-League honors. Always focused, positive, and direct, Alex is able to demand the respect of his teammates and opponents by sheer actions.
As an athlete, Alex is extremely well-rounded. A four-year starter and letterman in hockey, Alex has also played volleyball and lacrosse for Bishop Watterson. On the ice, Alex has made his way to the top defensive pair in the program. With low numbers in his first 3 years, we needed players to step up in leadership roles and be able to play extended minutes in all situations. Alex has seen extensive time on special teams and game preserving situations. True to form, Alex has excelled in this capacity by taking extreme pride in his craft. Part of a rebuilding process his senior year, we have finished 3rd in the CHC Blue division and been extremely competitive in most of our games. Alex was an integral part of this success while we have learned how to win.
In addition to his leadership on the rink, Alex is also a leader at the school and we are so proud to have Alex as a part of our program. His ability to lead on the athletic field and in the academic community is what make him truly special. Alex works tirelessly in the classroom as well as on the ice. With a heavy workload of classes, Alex has managed his time very well to succeed in both sports and school. Carrying a high GPA, Alex enjoys challenging himself in school. Additionally, Alex volunteers for school events such as Future Ice Eagles and incoming Freshman orientations to welcome the next group of Bishop Watterson students. He is great ambassador for the school and community.
For these reasons and many more, I whole-heartedly endorse Alex Schirack as the Hobey Baker recipient for Bishop Watterson High School.
