Alex is a scholar athlete that embodies the traits of the Hobey Baker High School Character Award, which include Character, Commitment, Teamwork, Persistence, Selflessness, Academic Excellence and Sportsmanship. He is a currently a junior at Arnold O. Beckman High School where he carries a GPA of 3.8. Alex, a defenseman, is the Captain of the varsity team and a member of the Patriots hockey team for the third straight year, the last two at the varsity level. Alex has been selected to play in the ADHSHL All-Star Game the past two seasons. This season Alex had a five goal game, which included the game tying goal in the final minute and the game winner in overtime. Despite his stellar day on the ice, Alex continued to focus on the team and was just happy the team pulled out a victory. Alex is amongst the team leaders in goals scored, points and plus/minus. In three seasons, Alex has never missed a game of any kind, whether it was Spring Selects, regular season, tournament or playoffs; at times playing through injury or illness. His streak of consecutive games played is currently at 116 games. During his streak, Alex has limited his penalty minutes to just 14 while playing on both the power play and penalty kill. He has volunteered time at Learn to Play Hockey, a youth program at the local rink aimed at exposing kids to hockey and developing their basic skills. Alex is also a member of the National League of Young Men, California Scholarship Federation and the Ronald McDonald Club. In 2016, Alex served as Captain of Team Orange County’s ice hockey team when they competed in the 2016 JCC Maccabi Games, an Olympic-style sporting competition held every summer in North America and one of the largest organized sports programs for Jewish teens in the world. During the games, Alex was awarded an individual gold medal for kindness and sportsmanship.
