Macey Portner is a deserving recipient of the Hobey Baker High School Character Award

In hockey she has been a varsity level participant since the 8th grade. Macey has earned all-conference honors 2 times and has been a 2-year captain.

The most important characteristic that separates Macey from the many other deserving recipients for this award is her leadership skills. Macey is the best leader I have been around in my years of coaching. Her ability to truly understand what it means to lead (to serve your teammates) is a special and unique skill for a high school athlete to have. She is a true leader and role model for our young female athletes in our community. She leads by example and with grace. I consider myself lucky to have had the opportunity to coach Macey and I look forward to seeing all the great things she will accomplish in the future.
