Throughout her time with our program, Hannah Westman has consistently exemplified the core values of this award—character, excellence, love for the game, and sportsmanship—in everything she does on and off the ice.
From the moment she stepped onto the rink, Hannah has demonstrated an unselfish commitment to her team. She approaches every practice and game with a humble confidence rarely seen in student-athletes. Her willingness to play multiple positions—even during the same game—shows not only her versatility, but her dedication to doing what is best for her teammates and the team as a whole. This selfless attitude reflects true leadership, and it has been an essential part of our team’s success and culture.
Hannah carries herself with respect for the rules of the game and a level of sportsmanship that sets her apart. She competes hard, but fair, and consistently shows respect toward opponents, officials, coaches, and teammates alike. Her demeanor and conduct model the very spirit of Hobey Baker’s ideal that “Adversity builds character, and character builds excellence.”
No matter the level she plays, Hannah has been an incredible teammate. What resonates most with all of us is the way Hannah brings joy and unity to our locker room. Her joyful personality permeates every interaction and brings smiles to the faces of her teammates, creating an environment where players feel supported, confident, and encouraged. Her presence alone strengthens our team’s cohesion and spirit.
