The Terriers 2025–2026 Hobey Baker Award recipient is Riley Doty. Riley Doty has undoubtedly left a lasting impact on his high school hockey program, coaches, and community throughout his four years with the team. His love for the sport, competitive spirit, and natural leadership abilities have consistently placed him in positions of influence within the program. Riley demonstrated exceptional leadership by becoming only the second player in program history to be named a team captain during both his junior and senior seasons. After earning a significant varsity role in his junior and senior years, he became a key contributor and focal point of the team’s offense, which led to his selection as an all-conference player during his junior season. His relentless commitment to training, both in-season and during the off-season, allowed him to continuously develop into a more impactful and dependable player.

Riley’s impact, however, extends far beyond statistics and accolades. He consistently demonstrates outstanding sportsmanship toward both opponents and officials, always interacting with officials in a composed and respectful manner. These qualities reflect his competitive drive paired with a humble demeanor that is evident in every practice and game. Perhaps Riley’s greatest attribute as a student-athlete is his character. He has matured into a leader who is receptive to feedback, actively listens to others, and values different perspectives. This willingness to learn and grow not only benefits him personally but also elevates those around him. Riley helped organize team events, consistently communicated important messages to the team, and ultimately became the heartbeat of the program.

Riley’s qualities as a student-athlete align perfectly with the values represented by the Hobey Baker Award. His impact both on and off the ice is evident through his leadership, dedication, sportsmanship, and character. Riley exemplifies what it means to be a true role model and is deserving of recognition for his outstanding contributions to the sport and his community.
