Countdown to Hobey:

Phoebe Knoer

2026 | Michigan |

Cranbrook Kingswood High School | Cranes |

Phoebe Knoer is competing in her fourth season on Cranbrook’s Girls Varsity Hockey Team and her third year serving as a team captain, a role she has earned through her consistency, humility, and unwavering commitment to her teammates. During her junior season, Phoebe was honored as both an All-State and All-League defender, a testament not only to her athletic performance but also to the respect she commands across the league.

One of the most versatile players on our roster, Phoebe contributes in every phase of the game. While she is widely recognized as a shutdown defender, her hockey intelligence and offensive instincts allow her to seamlessly transition to forward during power-play situations. She currently ranks third on the team in overall scoring and leads all active defensemen, a reflection of both her skill and her selfless approach to team success.

Phoebe embodies the essence of leading by example. She supports her teammates with a calm, steady presence, offering encouragement and perspective in moments of both adversity and achievement. Her quiet confidence and authenticity give her words uncommon weight; when Phoebe speaks, her teammates, and her coaches, listen. She elevates the culture of our program not through volume, but through integrity and consistency.

Over the past two seasons, Phoebe has been instrumental in fostering a team environment defined by unity, accountability, and purpose. Under her leadership, our program has strengthened its commitment to community impact, partnering with organizations such as the National Hockey League’s Hockey Fights Cancer initiative, Breast Cancer Awareness programs, and The Bottomless Toy Chest, which provides comfort and joy to pediatric oncology patients. Phoebe’s willingness to lead beyond the rink reflects a maturity and empathy that extends far beyond her years.

Academically, Phoebe is equally exceptional. She will graduate with a near-perfect grade point average, demonstrating remarkable intellectual discipline alongside her athletic achievements. Her thoughtful perspective, refined critical-thinking skills, and natural curiosity make her a standout student-athlete. In the fall of 2026, she will attend Dartmouth College, where she plans to pursue a dual major in Political Science and German Studies, an academic path that reflects both her ambition and her global outlook.

In every respect, as a competitor, leader, scholar, and person of character, Phoebe represents the highest ideals of high school hockey. I offer my strongest possible recommendation for Phoebe Knoer as a recipient of the Hobey Baker High School Character Award, confident that she will continue to inspire others and represent this honor with distinction.
