Countdown to Hobey:

Owen Schlicker

2026 | Michigan |

Novi | Wildcats |

Owen Schlicker finished his high school career as a 3-year varsity letterman for the Novi Wildcats. Owen grew exponentially this season both on and off the ice as a player, person, and leader. Owen was voted by every single one of his teammates to wear the Captain, “C” this season. When joining the team his sophomore year, Owen found himself fighting for minutes and finding a role on the team. “The Big Rig” as the boys call him found rhythm to his game and made the best use out of his size out on the rink. He became a power forward for the team and figured out his depth role mid-way through the season. Owen’s junior season he found a role in the top-9 forward group and flexed in as a winger and played some defenseman on the special teams unit on occasion. The summer going into Senior year, Owen really grew and matured into the makings of a leader the boys looked up to this season. He became a forward in our top 6 forward group and gave it his all every night. Production wise this was his best season and overall he had a completely rounded out game both offensively and defensively. He was a guy that did all the little things for the team from driving guys to and from practice, making sure the locker room was clean and orderly to picking up deliveries for us that were dropped off at the school. Whatever the team needed, Owen made sure to get it done.

Owen has competed with Michigan Legacy Hockey the past few springs in the off-season and is a part of (SALPI) the Student Athlete Leadership, Performance, and Impact organization at Novi HS. It is a student-led organization/club designed to develop leadership skills in student-athletes, focusing on their performance, character, and overall impact within the school community. Owen takes great pride in being of Indigenous heritage and plans to attend Michigan Technological University in Houghton, MI the fall of 2026 to study Mechanical Engineering. While at Michigan Tech, Owen plans to continue playing hockey for Tech at the ACHA level and also is looking forward to joining the Formula SAE team. Formula SAE (FSAE) is an international collegiate engineering competition organized by SAE International where student teams design, build, and race small, formula-style, open-wheel race cars.

Best of luck in all of your future endeavors Schlicks, your Character, Excellence, Sportsmanship, and love for the game has been felt for many years here at Novi. These are the values that shaped the legend of Hobey Baker. The Hobey Baker Memorial Award committee believes that adversity builds character, and character builds excellence. Character makes the game better… and you’ve left our program in a better place. Thanks for your time with the Wildcats.
