Brayden Smith
2026 | New York |
Massena Central High School | Raiders |
A two-year veteran goaltender for the Massena Raiders Varsity hockey team, Brayden embodies the core philosophy of this honor: “The Team Before Me.” In a position defined by immense pressure, Brayden has distinguished himself not only through his athleticism and competitive drive but through an unwavering commitment to his teammates and the pride of being a part of this program.
While Brayden possesses a quiet personality, his impact on the ice and in the locker room is profound. He truly personifies the mantra of “actions, not words”. Rather than just saying the words necessary to satisfy the moment or seek the spotlight, he has continually led through a relentless work ethic and a selfless approach to the game. That internal drive and work ethic became contagious at times and gave his teammates confidence.
What sets Brayden apart is his remarkable persistence and self-awareness. When faced with the frustrations of a challenging performance, he does not succumb to discouragement; instead, he channels that energy into motivation, constantly striving to refine his craft for the benefit of his Team. His ability to transform personal high standards into collective team strength is the hallmark of an outstanding teammate and a person of high character.
For his sportsmanship, his quiet leadership, and his dedication to the Massena Raiders hockey program, we are proud to recognize BRAYDEN SMITH as this year’s recipient of the Hobey Baker High School Character Award.
