Luke Wheeler is a senior co-captain on our 2017-18 hockey team. He is our first line center and plays on our top power play and penalty kill units. He is the leading scorer in the state. He is also an outstanding student with a cumulative GPA of near a 4.0.
Luke is a quiet, soft spoken person with great character. He is very well respected by his teammates due to his easy-going nature and the example he sets with his great work ethic and commitment to his team. He is also highly responsible, organized and dependable.
Last summer Luke developed an idea to honor our Military and First Responders at one of our home hockey games this season. Starting in late September, he organized a 22 person committee that included a few of his teammates, faculty, staff and parents. He scheduled meetings every two weeks over a three month period. He oversaw the production and implementation of the Military Appreciation Night Event including specially designed Military Game jerseys & socks. The response from the Military veterans, current Military and fans who attended the game was almost overwhelming. The event was a huge success. Many felt it was the greatest school event that they had ever witnessed and much of the credit was due to Luke’s commitment and organizational efforts. Luke Wheeler is the kind of student-athlete that the Hobey Baker High School Character Award exemplifies.
