In today’s world, with all that a person must do to survive daily demands, it is very easy to overlook those people that meet and sometimes exceed the challenges and opportunities that they face. So I write on behalf of Matthew Owen, a Senior class student at Xavier High School in New York, NY and a player I had the pleasure to coach for the four varsity seasons.

Matthew Owen is a young man who has demonstrated the ability to excel at whatever he chooses to do. Whether it is his academic studies, playing ice hockey for both high school and club organizations or working a job to lessen the financial burden to his family, Matt has managed his time effectively to achieve success in all areas. I have known Matt and his family for four years and realize that he is an asset to anyone in need of an individual who possesses those qualities that appear to be evaporating – commitment, responsibility, obligation and respect. He is proud of his family heritage and lives his life within his family guidelines. His professional demeanor and compassion for people affords him the ability to effectively communicate with all who are in his company.

A dedicated son, student athlete and worker, Matthew Owen is worthy of receiving whatever available rewards there are in life’s journey. His ambition and focus will result in nothing less than successful accomplishments. His character is exemplary of the Hobey Baker HS award.
