I have had the pleasure of seeing John, or Duffer as I call him, mature as an individual and player over the last 6 years. I first coached him as a peewee. He then went on to have a successful career in travel hockey. In the last 2 years, he has returned to the recreational league. Duffer is a quiet player, but I have seen him open up and become a leader for his teams with his confident play and calm demeanor. I have also had the pleasure to see him volunteer as a junior coach for the Capital City Crew, a HIFE program here in the Raleigh area, which gives the opportunity to learn to play hockey to kids from Boys and Girls Clubs. His work ethic and skills have been an asset to the program.
