As Assabet Valley’s winner of the Hobey Baker High School Character Award, Brady Sawyer is the embodiment of the core values for which this honor is presented. There is no doubt that his outstanding character has made Assabet’s hockey program better and its games better, too! Chosen as a team captain by his 2021-2022 season teammates, Brady’s quiet, lead by example style was consistently on display during every hockey event, on or off the ice, all season long. Well liked and respected by everyone associated with the program, his disarming, good natured persona is an open invitation to experience his quick wit and fun loving personality. On the ice however, Brady is a true reflection of the Hobey Baker High School Character Award. He is an extremely creative and talented player, and is one of the main reasons Assabet Valley’s season was very successful this year, but his willingness, perhaps eagerness, to be coached and his outstanding sportsmanship were truly admirable character traits. It was clear he was always attempting to implement things learned in practice, and above all, Brady Sawyer was as trustworthy as a player can be. He was on the ice to play hockey at all times! No matter the score or the tenor of the game, he would compete with passion and selflessness to the best of his ability for his team, his school, and his family. Whether basking in the glow of a big win or processing the pain of a bitter defeat, Brady respected the game of hockey and everyone involved in it, whether teammate or opponent….whether player, coach, game official, spectator, or rink worker. Assabet Valley is sincerely happy and proud that Brady Sawyer is representing our hockey program as its 2022 Hobey Baker High School Character Award Winner. Congratulations Brady!
