Countdown to Hobey:

Matthew Dennison

2022 | Rhode Island | BOYS

West Warwick-Exeter West Greenwich | Knight-Wizards | BOYS

Matthew Dennison was the 2021-2022 West Warwick/Exeter West Greenwich Captain. Matthew was a four year varsity athlete helping his team win the Division 3 championship in 2020 and taking 2nd place in 2019. Matthew was the strongest athlete on our team. Matthew was not only strong in physical strength but more so in mental willpower. Matthew was a true leader on and off the ice who surrounded himself with great friends, whom he treasured. Matthew was a mentor to our freshman and sophomore class. He was truly someone the underclassmen looked up to and wanted to become. On February 12, 2022 Matthew and Co-Captain Kevin MacDonald were involved in a motor vehicle accident. The two were struck head on by an impaired driver. Matthew was air lifted to RI Hospital were he used the strength and mental will power to fight for his life for four long weeks. Matthew passed away surrounded by his family on March 10, 2022. Matthew’s jersey number will be retired. Matthews number will be hung from the rafters in the West Warwick Ice Rink as a representation of Matthew’s hard work and dedication but most importantly to always have him with us and to remind us to never stop fighting.

Rest In Peace Captain
MD16 Forever and always!
