This year we are pleased to nominate Jasper Prouvost as the athlete who most personifies strength, character, and integrity along with exhibiting outstanding hockey skills, scholastic achievement and sportsmanship.  Jasper has been a member of the DC Stars for two seasons and during these years, I have watched Jasper mature into a vocal team member and effective leader who is both respected and admired by his peers.
Jasper exhibits a level of high moral character by volunteering his place on the roster to allow other teammates to receive more ice time.  Due to the team’s roster being comprised of more than the twenty player allowance, when approached, Jasper willingly volunteered his spot to allow teammates the opportunity to play in regular season games who would not have had the opportunity to play unless a spot freed up; an act not commonly experienced in high school sports.  
Jasper’s unselfish demeanor is also evident with his play on the ice. This season, Jasper has earned the respect of both the coaching staff along with his fellow teammates by being a solid and trustworthy defenseman.  While his success on the ice may not always be reflected in individual statistics, his attention to detail and pride in playing have been critical to the team’s success. This season, with Jasper as one of the program’s top defensemen, he has helped the team record a 2.375 goals against average which is lowest in the Montgomery 1A Division of the Maryland Student Hockey League.   Without a doubt, Jasper’s outstanding skill in all phases of the game, especially defensively, is behind the success of the 2013-2014 DC Stars.  
Finally, Jasper’s scholastic achievements speak for themselves.  Jasper currently holds a 3.9 GPA mastering BC Calculus and Advance Chemistry while balancing several extracurricular activities including ice hockey and varsity soccer.  
For these reasons, we are pleased to nominate Jasper Prouvost as a 2013-2014 recipient of the Hobey Baker High School Character Award.
