Countdown to Hobey:

Cameron Dettmann

2014 | Colorado | BOYS

Mountain Lion | Mountain Lions | BOYS

I have coached Cameron for many years, first as an inline player when he was 9 or 10 years old and following through his bantam, midget, and high school years on ice.  Through the numerous teams, he has always been a quiet leader.  He was always one of the smaller players, but used that as incentive to work harder and would always motivate his teammates through his sheer effort on the ice.  He used his quiet demeanor as a tool, reserving his comments to those that invariable had a high impact on team attitude.  He is a man of few words, but those words were usually the right ones.  When Cam spoke, the team listened.
The impact of his comments were underscored by his play on the ice.  He goes hard, every shift.  He is never afraid to get in the corners or chase down the puck carrier from half the rink away.  He doesn’t give up on a play and is the first to stick up for a teammate when things get heated.  After taking a big hit, his response is to get back in the play, not in the player’s face.
It has been my great pleasure to coach Cameron for many years.  He is a quiet leader and a great hockey player.
