Countdown to Hobey:

James Horlacher

2014 | Missouri | BOYS

MICDS High School | MICDS Rams | BOYS

James has been an assistant captain for our varsity hockey club this season.  He has exceeded my expectations for a captain.  Without fail, James always puts his team first.  He makes sure that every member of our team, especially the freshmen, are included and actively involved with the team.  During practices, he pushes his teammates, typically electing to be the last in line for a drill so that he has the opportunity to support his entire teammate as they begin the drill.  James always looks for any opportunity to improve his team and I couldn’t have imagined a better assistant captain to lead us this season.

On the ice, James is much smaller than his peers.  What he lacks in size, he makes up for hard work and grit.  Rarely have I seen a player with a work ethic as strong as James’.  As a coach, I know that James will give me his absolute best night in and night out.  On the bench, he is always pumping up his team and ensuring that everyone stay positive and focused, no matter the current situation in a game.  He is a leader that our younger players always look to.

I am have a great respect for James and truly believe that he is a deserving candidate for the Hobey Baker
2014 HIGH SCHOOL CHARACTER AWARD.  As a teacher at MICDS, I regularly speak with James’ teachers and can report that he takes his education very seriously and has great ambition with regards to his learning.  Despite the tremendous workload James has taken on as a senior at MICDS, he always has a smile on his face and looks for every opportunity to improve someone else’s’ day.
