Danny Mahoney plays for the Leander Hockey Club. Danny is a player who defines character. He is responsible, respectful, and he is a fine example to our team (on the ice and off).  

After his freshman year, Danny worked hard to become a TX Jr. Star midget minor player and is currently a TX Jr. Star midget major playing for me this year.  I am proud to have Danny on two of my teams because of his positive attitude, his level of effort, and his coachability.  I can count on Danny to listen, understand, and perform with an outstanding attitude regardless of the task.  If he doesn’t understand something, he will ask questions and he helps his teammates to understand.  

On our high school team he is a candidate for captain and takes it upon himself to lead warmups and rally the team before games and in between periods.  Danny is a classy player who has only received 2 penalty minutes in three years of playing for Leander and he is a great sportsman regardless of the score at the end of the game.  In the beginning of the season, I told the team that I would be measuring team players by the number of assists they earned this year.  Danny has taken that to heart and is currently leading the team in assists.

Off the ice, Danny has volunteered his time for over almost two years in the learn to play and learn to skate programs and continues to help kids learn as a new employee of Chaparral Ice.  Danny has been a volunteer for the Little Rookies program, and has been a regular volunteer coach for Girl Power hockey events that help female players practice and improve their hockey skills.  He is also a volunteer coach for his sister’s pee wee team.  In school, Danny is an integral part of Cedar Park High School’s broadcast team where, in the midst of Texas high school football mania, he reports on the progress of high school hockey to promote our sport and get more people interested in hockey.
