During his four years as a member of Assabet Valley’s ice hockey program Sean Magarian has embodied the values recognized by the Hobey Baker High School Character Award. A skilled, tireless skater with the heart of a lion, Sean has endeared himself to his teammates, coaches and team supporters with his selfless, passionate performances game to game, year to year. His love for hockey, obvious by the smile on his face whenever he hit the ice, fueled his commitment to the sport and to the program. His enthusiasm was evident to all as he inspired his teammates to work harder, to be more responsible, and to take ownership of their actions. Previously the recipient of the program’s Richardson Award for outstanding sportsmanship, Sean exhibited strong character and leadership skills which were integral components of his being elected by his teammates to one of the team’s captaincies this season. Sean’s on ice accomplishments are impressive as well; he is a two time Central Mass 3A South and Russell Conference All Star.

By completely, and unselfishly embracing the core values listed in the award’s description, Sean’s being named its recipient is all the more impressive knowing that several of his senior teammates were also young men of strong character. There is no doubt that Sean, an accomplished golfer who will be attending Assumption College in the fall, has left behind a legacy that future Aztec hockey players would do well to emulate.
