Christian Sciarretta
2020 | New York | COED
Clarkstown | Mall Rats | COED
Christian is a three year varsity goaltender who we have selected for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award this season as he best fits all of the qualities on and off the ice that the award highlights.
He is one of the most coachable players, regularly asking for feedback and areas to improve upon after practices.
His strength of character and integrity are unrivaled although Christian has had limited playing time this season, he has remained positive and has contributed when called upon.
Christian’s level of commitment is excellent as the only event he has missed all season was to receive an award, Student of the Month in Rockland County from the Italian Club, one of his many extracurricular activities. As a senior, he still regularly stays late to help the modified program and their goalies after our practice.
His excellent teamwork can be seen in the multiple teams he has been a part of besides Clarkstown Hockey, whether it is his travel hockey program at the West Point Junior Black Knights for the past four years or his captainship of the Clarkstown South Tennis team that he has been a member of since arriving at the high school in ninth grade. Besides sports, you can see his teamwork and leadership in the role of a President of the World Language Club and a Vice President of the Italian Club, both of which he has participated in for the past three years.
Christian is also a very active member in the community. Besides the aforementioned volunteer work he does with the Clarkstown Modified team, he also volunteers in the sport of tennis helping new players acclimate. Christian also helps at the Youth Group for Saint Francis of Assisi Church with activities as well as fundraising efforts. Lastly, he holds a job at Dick’s sporting goods, working in his free time.
While all of Christian’s participation outside of school would normally make it hard to keep good grades, he manages to uphold a 94.5 average and has also made the National Honor Society both of the past two years as well as Mu Alpha Theta for the past three years. Christian has also been at the top of his Italian Class in grades nine and ten, while belonging to the World Language Honor Society the past three years.
Christian is an excellent sportsman, always with a smile on his face, ready to extend his positive attitude to help in any way that he can and in any situation, which is why we are strongly recommending him for this great honor.
