Countdown to Hobey:

Josh Gentle

2020 | Indiana | BOYS

Evansville Thunder White | Thunder | BOYS

Josh was a member of the varsity squad last year as a junior and ended up loosing his roster spot for his senior year. I spoke with him about playing with the junior varsity team this year and he accepted with a little reluctance. Josh is a soft spoken, very humble young man who is always respectful of those around him and of the game. When practices started this season, the younger players immediately gravitated to Josh and his leadership and positive attitude really set the tone for the team’s cohesion. He was elected a captain and has really been the anchor of our team.
As a goalie, Josh has been tested more this season than in any previous seasons of his hockey career. Our JV team is young and inexperienced and, as such, he has faced a barrage of shots in every game. The sheer volume of shots faced, coupled with our loosing record, would be enough for any goalie to throw up their hands and call it quits. But Josh has faced the adversity with a smile and been an invaluable asset keeping the players spirits high in the locker room and on the ice. His leadership, hard work, dedication, love for the sport and his fellow players, and amazing attitude are the reasons for this nomination. It has been an honor to coach this young man and he is very deserving of all the accolades that can be bestowed upon him.
