I would like to nominate Zach Wagenmann for this prestigious award for his character, leadership and showing how diversity and positive attitude can provide light and guidance to his peers as well as the players around him.
A few years ago while in he was a freshman in high school he lost his mother to cancer. She was not in Ill health so it was a surprise. Usually these types of things are hard to deal with and hard to come back from. This young man showed his love for his mother and father by working with him and having him understand that he loved her and him by staying positive and moving forward in each aspect of life. He continued to be a model student never allowing grief to bring him down at school, games, community activities or practice. Ice hockey is not only an outlet but it is a passion. He is a student of the game and helps the players on his team to help them improve their game as well. Always being a positive influence for those who are coming into the program.
Our high school program has community activities to give back to people from our school and our close nit community. Donating toys for tots each year, having a local float in our local parade and donating time to local churches.
He has never let anything get him down so much as to give up. His positive attitude is exemplary and his workload in high school includes a 3.75 GPA. He also has a high school girlfriend that keeps him grounded and positive as well. Always with a smile and a look of what can be done today and for the future.
He will be attending college or if he is picked up by a ice hockey farm team he will be continuing his career in hockey. He does plan to have a career past ice hockey and therefore will make sure he has a degree from a credited college.
This young man is worthy of such an award through his positive attitude and sportsmanlike gamesmanship. He has been a joy to coach and I look forward to hearing of the grand things in his future.
