It is with great pleasure that I offer this Hobey Baker Character Award letter of support for Kiran Vugteveen. Over the past four years, I have coached her as part of the Brookings Rangers Girls’ Varsity program.

As a player, I would consider Kiran one of the most dedicated players I’ve coached. I was immediately impressed by her work ethic, eagerness to learn, and the amount of preparation she has put in to be the best hockey player possible. This stems from a strong commitment and desire to better herself every day as a person and a hockey player, which is a tribute to her maturity level and drive to excel to her fullest potential. There is no doubt that the qualities and attributes she brings as a student-athlete will help her succeed in her life throughout the rest of her high school career, college, and the career she pursues after she graduates from college.

Kiran’s most significant trait may be her ability to lead by example. Her teammates voted for Kiran to be one of their captains for two years straight. Kiran has played a significant role in our organization and has stepped it up by taking on a more active leadership role. Kiran is a positive role model for her teammates on and off the ice and most importantly with her Ranger family. When Kiran leaves our program, she will leave a huge mark. She will be greatly missed!
