Caden Bruett is a rare breed of teammate and competitor. In a time when specialization, social media announcements and me-first is the norm for our elite high school athletes, Caden reminds us of what amateur sports is truly about. Caden grew up in the shadows of his father’s (JT Bruett) MLB and minor league baseball career. At an early age, Caden was an elite baseball player, he even won the Cooperstown Homerun Derby around age 12. He was varsity baseball players on a very good team as an 8th grader and he recently signed his NLI to become a Golden Gopher next school year at the University of Minnesota. I share all Caden has accomplished in baseball to setup who he really is as a three sport captain (football). I know for certain Caden’s love of his teammates, his programs, his sports that he has given up baseball exposure and development opportunities. He simply is THE teammate we all want to be. He plays a simple role on our hockey team, he’s a 3rd line grinder, spent one and a half seasons on JV, he isn’t on the PP, but he does not care. His effort, coachability and his leadership is unwavering. He is low maintenance in the best way possible. I am thrilled to name Caden Bruett as the Hobey Baker Character Award Nomination for Tiger Hockey!
