Gregory Pate
2023 | Indiana | COED
Bloomington Blades | Blades | COED
Greg Pate has been the heart of the Bloomington Blades 2022-2023 season. Many players approached me at the beginning of the season, unprompted, to
to recommend Greg as the captain; demonstrating his earned respect of his peers.
Unfortunately, Greg suffered what should have been a season ending injury (open achilles tendon cut by hockey skate) in a preseason game. However, his determination in rehab driven by his love to play for the game has allowed him to to be clear for the league and state finals. This is a testament to his resiliency.
Greg supported his team despite his severe injury. He made it a priority to
attend practices; learning the systems we were teaching, encouraging his players bench-
side, and essentially serving as a player-coach. Greg also put together a full game video
review session for the team and presented it during a team chalk-talk. He highlighted the
good and the bad, and recommended improvements. Furthermore, his support was not w
limited to just practice. I was surprise to see Greg make the effort to attend our travel weekends – purchasing a hotel, strapping on his helmet, and standing on the bench
cheering for the team. He is
a player dedicated to his team, hockey, and excellence on and off the ice.
