Countdown to Hobey:

Ben Herweck

2023 | Missouri | BOYS

Kirkwood Pioneers | Pioneers | BOYS

As the Varsity Coaching staff, We don’t have one individual specific story to share as to why Ben Herweck is a deserving recipient of the Hobey Baker High School Character Award, rather, we feel it’s more important to highlight the well-rounded person/ice hockey player that Ben Herweck is and has become.

I had the pleasure of coaching and getting to know Ben during his four years as a stand out Kirkwood High School hockey player. Over that time, Ben emerged as a leader and someone the coaching staff could consistently rely on. By the time his Senior year rolled around, it was clear that Ben had earned the right to be named Assistant Captain of the team.

Ben is an exceptional student and a member of the National Honors Society. Outside of being a straight ”A’ student and a leader on the ice, Ben has always set aside time to give back to the community as well.

Ben has volunteered many hours and has taken the initiative on numerous philanthropic type projects throughout his high school years. Every summer, Ben volunteers his time to prepare and mentor our Kirkwood youth hockey players for the upcoming tryout/season.

Over the course of the last 4 years, I have gotten to know Ben both on a player/coach and personal level and can assure you that he is a more than deserving recipient of The Hobey Baker High School Character Award.

Thank You,

Mark Fischer
