There are student athletes, and then there are exceptional students who rise up as leaders for their teammates. It is evident watching Ty Kelley how much he loves being a part of a team, and in turn how much his teammates look up to him. He includes and encourages everyone and is an unselfish player; knowing it takes each member of the team to succeed.

On and off the ice, Ty’s integrity is unmatched by his honesty and refusal to change his high moral character. Whatever Ty decides to do, you can be assured it will be done the right way. No matter how much dedication and effort it takes, Ty will never take a shortcut to get to the finish line. He is constantly learning and seeking ways to improve from both his coaches and peers.

Ty is a fierce and respectful competitor, but where his character is most commendable is watching the way he inspires others. Whether it is organizing his teammates to place flags at the Veterans Cemetery, working the Homeless for the Holidays event, or reading with the local elementary schools, Ty can always be found volunteering his time and ensuring his work gives others a reason to look up to him. Most notable is Ty living each day modeling that someone’s abilities, not disabilities, are what should be focused upon. Any road block that has been placed before Ty was seen as a challenge, which only made the victory more extraordinary.
