Countdown to Hobey:

Dylan Wheeler

2016 | Colorado | BOYS

Valor Christian High School | Eagles | BOYS

As our senior goaltender, Dylan Wheeler was elected captain for the 2015-16 hockey season. Dylan is the only member of the Valor Christian boy’s hockey team to have been a member of the team for all four years. He has persevered through some lean years when the hockey program at Valor Christian was almost dissolved because there were not enough players interested or available to play.
Dylan is an excellent goaltender and loves playing the position. However in mid-season when injuries and illness left our team well short of the necessary skaters for a game, Dylan suggested that he suit up as a skater which also gave our freshman backup goaltender some valuable playing experience.
Dylan’s performance as our #1 goaltender this season helped lead the Valor Christian boy’s hockey team to a sixth place regular season finish in the CHSAA Peak Conference and a spot in the CHSAA hockey state playoffs, a feat that prior to the season, very few thought possible.
Dylan continued to demonstrate his tremendous commitment throughout this past season. He never missed a practice, training session, meeting or any other team activity.
Like all good leaders, Dylan Wheeler always placed the team’s needs ahead of his own. He is widely admired and respected by his teammates, students, faculty and staff at Valor Christian.
He is involved in community activities after school and at times during breaks in his hockey and academic schedule.
Dylan maintains a 3.5 GPA and has been accepted and will attend Syracuse University in the fall of 2016.
I am pleased to recommend Dylan Wheeler for the High School Hockey Hobey Baker Award due to his strength of character, integrity, commitment, teamwork and sportsmanship.
