Charlotte Catholic High School | IceCougs | BOYS
Joe Pons has been a defenseman on the Charlotte Catholic High School team since 9th Grade, stepping into the role of Captain in his Senior year. In every year he has played he has shown respect for the game, his teammates, opponents and officials.
Joe demonstrates the core values of our school both on and off the ice. He is even-tempered, driven, unpretentious, and leads the team by example in his gameplay. A skilled player, Joe leaves it all out on the ice every shift, setting the bar for both his teammates and the competition.
Joe has a great perspective of the game, maintaining positivity throughout. His enthusiasm for the game and his team resonates on the ice and on the bench. As Captain, he is quick to boost morale when needed in tough situations, energizing and refocusing the team for the task ahead.
Joe consistently demonstrates that hockey is all-inclusive – it’s a game for everyone. A pat on the back, some words between shifts on the bench and after the game in the dressing room, Joe recognizes the varied talents and contributions of his teammates, both big and small.
Joe’s respect and passion for the game makes him easy to coach. He listens, adjusts his game, and respectfully offers his observations and suggestions. He is modest in victory and gracious in loss – a sportsman in every sense of the word.
Joe intends to continue playing the greatest game on the planet through his College years and beyond. It has been an honor having him as an IceCoug and our Captain. Joe will be a gift to any team lucky enough to have him on their squad in the future.
